A dual-tone Bhagalpuri tussar that turns from soft mauve to lilac as it folds. Sandhya, for the colour of evening.
A Bhagalpuri tussar from Bihar, the silk reeled from cocoons of the wild tasar moth rather than the domesticated mulberry silkworm. Its iridescence comes from a dual-tone weave, with one colour for the warp and another for the weft, so the silk shifts hue as it folds. Tussar is rougher to the hand than mulberry silk, with a grainy slubbed texture that softens with every wear.
