Gulab Banarasi, on the balcony

The Gulab Banarasi.

A vibrant rose-pink Banarasi, woven through with gold and silver buttis. Gulab, for the rose at the heart of the picture.

On the Weave

A vibrant rose-pink Banarasi katan, woven through with gold and silver buttis on a floral jaal. Jaal is the Hindi for net or trellis: the motifs join across the body in a continuous pattern rather than scattered, the saree's surface a single woven garden. The contrast violet pallu is the traditional finish for a Banarasi of this register.
